7 Questions to Ask Before Hiring an Event Planner You Can Trust

1. Do you charge consultation or planning fees?

2. What is actually included in the price?

Design, décor, entertainment, coordination, setup, teardown. Get specific about what sits inside the number and what does not, so you can compare two proposals fairly instead of guessing.

Ask what happens after the last guest leaves

Teardown and cleanup are where a lot of packages quietly end. Find out who is stacking chairs at midnight, because if the answer is vague, the answer is you.

3. Have you planned events like mine?

Kids’ parties, corporate events, and milestone celebrations each call for different instincts. A planner who is brilliant at a children’s birthday party is not automatically the right fit for a corporate gala. Ask to see real work from past events that looks like the one you are imagining.

4. How, and how often, will we communicate?

Great events run on great communication. You should know who your point of contact is, which channel they prefer, and what the rhythm looks like as the date gets closer. 5. Who is actually on site on the day?

Find out who runs your event in the room. The person who sells you the vision and the person who directs the vendors are not always the same, and you want to meet whoever is holding the timeline so you can hand it off and enjoy your own party.

6. Can I see reviews or references?

Word of mouth is everything in this business. Read the reviews from past clients, because they tell you what working with someone is really like once the proposal is signed.

7. What happens if something goes wrong?

Weather turns. A vendor runs late. A guest count shifts the week of. Ask how they handle the unexpected, and notice whether the answer sounds rehearsed or genuinely calm.
