Columbia is a proper county seat, with a historic downtown district on the National Register and a courthouse square the whole town orients around. It also has a civic calendar with real gravity: Mule Day brings crowds into the city every spring on a scale that affects traffic, parking and vendor availability for the entire weekend, and First Fridays fill the square once a month. None of that stops a party. It does mean the date needs checking against the town’s calendar before anything is booked, which is the kind of thing that is obvious in hindsight and expensive to discover late.
