A courthouse square and the country around it
Springfield is built around one of the better-preserved public squares in Middle Tennessee, with a courthouse dating to the 1870s and a commercial district on the National Register. Robertson County around it is farm country with genuine depth of history. That combination gives a celebration here a natural setting a lot of newer towns have to manufacture, and the design job is usually restraint rather than addition: work with the brick, the light and the land rather than covering them. The events that go best here are the ones that look like they belong where they are.
